Dining: Birthday at Beets!

I don't go out to eat too often (not due to dietary restraints, Austin has many places I can go, and after 10 years I know my way around a menu pretty much anywhere- but I enjoy cooking and saving money). On the 13th I turned 27 and my husband took me out to eat for my first time at Beets Cafe, which is all raw and vegan. So delicious! Though it was a bit on the pricey side (for us and Austin standards, super cheap compared to Raw food in New York or San Francisco), it was worth the treat. My favorite? Of course the birthday dessert. Raw, Vegan, Lemon Cheesecake. OMG. The Dessert alone would make me want to eat there more often. And impressively all the food we ordered (and we ordered a lot) was just as good.

We also shared an order of the E.L.T. which is the raw vegan version of a BLT (eggplant, "E" is dehydrated to become crispy and I don't even like Eggplant but I easily could have eaten one all on my own). We shared an order of the Cha-lu-pas too that were amazing, chips and salsa with "queso", and also had an order of one of their specials, a raw vegan version of jalapeno poppers that were AMAZING! Everything there was delicious, I might not be able to wait for another birthday to return, though I should save my pennies first. BEETS! Go! Anyone will enjoy the food, raw or not, vegan or not. You might be surprised.
